# Modify storage type

This explains how to build meta-qcom build for a different storage type.

A device may support more than one storage type, such as UFS, eMMC etc. The storage type used during the build is determined by the partition configuration selected in the device's machine configuration file.

## **eMMC**

This section explains how to configure a device to use eMMC storage.

**Prerequisites**

Before making the change, ensure that you have followed instructions at [Build Qualcomm Linux using Yocto](https://dragonwingdocs.qualcomm.com/Key-Documents/Yocto-Guide/build-qualcomm-linux.md#build-instructions) and downloaded Qualcomm’s Yocto layer `meta-qcom`.

## Configure the target for eMMC storage

### Supported platforms

| **Platform** | **Machine configuration** | **Development kit** |
| - | - | - |
| Lemans | `iq-9075-evk` | Qualcomm Dragonwing™ IQ-9075 EVK (QCS9075) |
| Monaco | `iq-8275-evk` | Qualcomm Dragonwing™ IQ-8275 EVK (QCS8275) |

### 1. Update `QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR` in the machine configuration

In the `meta-qcom` repository, open the machine configuration file.

For the `iq-9075-evk` device, open:

```text theme={null}
conf/machine/iq-9075-evk.conf
```

Change the partition configuration from `UFS`:

```bitbake theme={null}
QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR ?= "partitions/iq-9075-evk/ufs"
```

to `eMMC`:

```bitbake theme={null}
QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR ?= "partitions/iq-9075-evk/emmc"
```

The resulting change should look like this:

```bash IQ-9075-EVK theme={null}
- QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR ?= "partitions/iq-9075-evk/ufs"
+ QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR ?= "partitions/iq-9075-evk/emmc"
```

```bash IQ-8275-EVK theme={null}
- QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR ?= "partitions/iq-8275-evk/ufs"
+ QCOM_PARTITION_FILES_SUBDIR ?= "partitions/iq-8275-evk/emmc"
```

This change instructs the build to use the eMMC partition configuration associated with the target.

### 2. Build the image

After updating the machine configuration, build the image by following the standard build procedure used for that target as shows at [Build Instructions](https://dragonwingdocs.qualcomm.com/Key-Documents/Yocto-Guide/build-qualcomm-linux.md#build-instructions).

No additional eMMC-specific build command is required. Use the same machine and image configuration that is for the device.
