# Overview of power management

> This guide describes the power management techniques on Qualcomm Linux that ensure minimum power consumption without compromising on performance.

**Note**

The guide uses the terms low power state and sleep state interchangeably to indicate the power-saving mechanism.

It includes:

* Application processor subsystem (APSS) architecture
* CPU active power management through CPU frequency scaling mechanisms and its tunables
* CPU idle power management through CPU sleep power states

The features and power states explained here are for reference only.
